Our Protocols for Increasing Safety During Your Pet’s Surgery

We comply with AAHA guidelines to make anesthesia during surgery as low-risk as possible for your pet. This involves taking proper steps before, during, and after the procedure.

These steps include:

  • 1

A pre-anesthetic examination and blood work to evaluate your pet’s health

  • 2

Anesthesia protocols formulated around your pet’s needs and medical history

  • 3

Placement of an IV catheter for efficient administration of fluids and medications

  • 4

Intraoperative monitoring by RVN, with the aid of our state-of-the-art monitoring equipment

  • 5

Comprehensive pain management to make your pet’s recovery as comfortable as possible

  • 6

Making sure your pet is able to stand, walk, and eliminate normally before returning home

  • 7

Providing you with all the instructions you need to manage your pet’s recovery at home

About Our Less-Invasive Surgical Options

Our doctors can perform some surgical procedures using less-invasive techniques. With laparoscopy, we are able to make smaller surgical incisions and use a tiny scope and camera to view the surgical area. This allows our doctors to be much more precise with the surgery they are performing, and it causes less trauma and bruising to surrounding tissues. We can perform spays and gastropexy surgeries using this technique. Pets undergoing laparoscopic surgery experience less bleeding, less pain, and faster healing and recovery.

Broad Ripple Animal Clinic also has multiple doctors trained in endoscopy. We often use this technique to remove foreign bodies from the intestinal tract, but we can also use it for biopsies and checking for abnormalities within the upper respiratory tract and upper GI tract.
